Exhibit shows “Georgia Works on Paper”

For the first time ever, the Georgia College & State University Art department will host the all-student “Georgia Works on Paper” exhibit.

From Jan. 15 through Feb. 16, this juried exhibition will

feature the works of 35 undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities in Georgia.

“The majority of the students participating in this exhibit are from GC&SU,” said Marc Snyder, the exhibit’s director. “There were seven universities and colleges that have works done by students.

This exhibit features drawings, prints, paintings, photographs and mixed media images. These universities and colleges include Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, LaGrange College, University of Georgia, Valdosta State University, State University of West Georgia.

This paper work is similar to the Pressed and Pulled exhibit held annually at GC&SU; however, this one is for students only. Snyder said “Georgia Works on Paper” allows college students to obtain

professional experience and it looks excellent on a resume.

“The juror who looked at all of the work was a faculty member from Tennessee. She only had the title, the medium and the size of the art work,” said Snyder. “She did not know what school or what individuals made what artwork.”

Awards were given to four of the 35 students who participated. All four awards went to GC&SU students. The juror who looked at the work was the one who chose the award winners.

“I think this would be great to continue and to start a new tradition like Pressed and Pulled,” said Snyder.

An opening reception will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20. There is no admission charge. The exhibit is held in Blackbridge Hall Gallery. The gallery hours are 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. For more information, contact the GC&SU Department of Art at 445-4572.
