Join The Colonnade

Weekly Meetings

If you want to talk with someone in person about an open position with the newspaper we hold weekly meetings on Mondays at 5 p.m. in MSU Lounge, near MSU 128. If you cannot make those e-mail colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu to find a time that works for you.

Opportunities at The Colonnade

The Colonnade is always seeking Georgia College students to join our team!
If you want to…

Be a writer

If you want to be a writer the easiest way to get involved is to come to our weekly Monday meetings at 5 p.m. and volunteer to take a story. You don’t have to have any prior experience, we’ll work with any experience level.

Sell advertising

Our advertising representatives work on their own schedule with the help of the advertising manager to contact clients, draw up contracts, design ads and seek payment. If you’d like to work in the advertising department of The Colonnade contact Jen Hoffman at jhoffmanadvertising@gmail.com. Advertising representatives are paid on commission.

Design things

Send an e-mail to laura.vantuyllvanserooskerken@bobcats.gcsu.edu to talk to designer Laura van Tuyll van Serooskerken about working on designing posters, graphics, or pages for The Colonnade. We use Adobe InDesign to design most things at The Colonnade and have 10 computers with it installed that you could use.

Draw cartoons

The Colonnade loves the cartoons in the Opinion section. We’re always on the lookout for anyone willing to sketch a weekly cartoon. You don’t have to draw like Monet, just be able to make it look clean. Humorous or political cartoons are accepted.  E-mail Lindsay Shoemake at colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu for more information.

Take photographs

The Colonnade is always looking for photographers! You don’t even have to own a camera; we have plenty you can use! Photographs are also assigned at the Monday meetings, so attending one of those is the best way to get invovled. E-mail photo editor Marilyn Ferrell at colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu for more information about how you can get involved behind the lens.

Write columns

The Opinion section can always use a new voice. If you’re opinionated and would like to write a column for The Colonnade send an e-mail to editor-in-chief Lindsay Shoemake at colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu. Topics for columns are pretty free-range, but do need to be approved by the editor in chief prior to publication.

Work on the website

The Colonnade is in need of a web editor to work on the website. If you’re interested in web design or coding please send an e-mail to colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu. The website is update on Thursdays during the weeks we publish. It is fairly simple, but can grow if you have any ideas.

Do something else

The Colonnade is always open to new ideas. If there’s something else you’d like to do with us please let us know. We’re very flexible and will work with you to try and make it happen. E-mail Lindsay Shoemake at colonnadeletters@gcsu.edu with your idea!
