Spotlight: Slice Pie
Slice Pie, a local rock band, started blasting their tunes in November 2010 during Thanksgiving break.
The band is mostly made up of Amici Italian Café employees, but all are regular Amici patrons.
The band has eight members. Nick Hittler on the keys, Jon Joiner on the drums, Alex Pound slapping the bass guitar, David Baker on electric guitar, Kevin Alexander blowing the trumpet, TJ Brown on the saxophone, front man Salem Cook and singer Jamie Kearney.

One may think, what kind of name is Slice Pie? Guitarist and GC alumnus David Baker and drummer Jon Joiner, owner of Amici, came up with the name while working in Amici’s kitchen. “We are all so different, so that is how we would make our band, on a slice pie,” said Baker. “Each slice of the pie is different, not one being the same.”
Slice Pie first started with just employees of Amici; they all worked in the kitchen together.
“The kitchen is full of musicians, and we had never played together. We started playing at the house, and it just took off from there,” said Hittler, keyboard player and GC alumnus.
The band is very versatile, they play everything from classic rock ‘n’ roll to James Brown funk.
Slice Pie not only rocks downtown Milledgeville, but they also play in Athens once every other month.
Slice Pie played this past weekend on Sept. 24 at Amici Italian Café in Athens, and their next show is scheduled for Oct. 18 at the Milledgeville Amici.
