Johnny Polygon to release first CD
Johnny Polygon appeared on the music scene in 2008 on the soundtrack for “Grand Theft Auto 4” with his song “Price on Your Head.” Later on that year he was featured in the song “Black President” by Nas off of his album “Untitled.”Since then, JP has released many EPs, and his popularity has grown throughout the rap community. His track “Riot Song” was featured on the HBO show “How to Make it in America” in 2010. In February 2010 he released a mixtape titled “Rebel Without Applause” where he had a remix to “Riot Song” featuring Grammy award winning artist Kid Cudi.
Since then, he has released another EP (“Wolf in Cheap Clothing”) and a mixtape (“Catch-Up”), but now he’s got his sights set on something bigger.
On Sept. 23 he kicks off his “LIMOSEXSUPERSTAR Tour” in New York City to promote his first full-length studio album, “Pussy Gun.” With no release date set and only one song offered to the public, I personally cannot be more excited. “LIMOSEXSUPERSTAR” is the only song from the CD you can find on Youtube right now, but his old material primes him for a highly anticipated premiere.
My friend, Zack Lockhart who is a senior computer science major, introduced me to JP a little over a year ago, and he is absolutely ecstatic for the CD to drop.
“I don’t think I have anticipated an artist’s first album more. I don’t think I can put into words how excited I am,” Zack said. “His music is just so different, so I don’t know what to expect.”
Not many other people on campus know about him other than us, and we have different opinions about where we want his popularity to go. I want everyone to know about him. He is a legitimate talent that deserves to have his music heard by as many people as possible. Zack could care less.
“I don’t care about his sales or anything as long as he keeps putting out the same quality music,” Zack said.
Either way we both share the same enthusiasm about JP’s first full length album. The music is something that will make you wonder where artists like this have been. When “Pussy Gun” hits shelves, pick it up, download it on iTunes; just do whatever you can to get it. You owe it to yourself.
