Slops:

Not a major problem, but a lot of articles were not lined up at the bottom which is a major newspaper issue. The editors probably were just rushing to get finished and didn’t line things up, hopefully it won’t happen again.
This headline kind of sucks. It’s not very strong and includes the word ‘the’ which is a big no-no in journalism headlines.

There’s nothing really wrong with the article or pictures, but there is not jump line. It didn’t get to the final version somehow. The article does jump though and the jump is in the paper so at least we didn’t just cut the article off, we just forgot to tell you where it jumped to.

Props:

Rachel did a fantastic job with this photo! It’s an interesting angle and really cool way to cover the blood drive. Usually when photographers are told to go to an event they don’t take risks and get close, but when they do awesome things turn out!
Speaking of awesome photos, Drake did a great job getting these photos and Mandy did a good job arranging them. The overall package is nice and the photos are varied and interesting. Very nice spread.

Scotty did something very unusual for the Sports section and he did a graphic for his article. Since we obviously don’t have a football team we couldn’t get photos for the article and instead he made a field and put the article on it. Great layout and a nice change of pace for the Sports front page.

Aubrie did a fantastic job making this graphic. It’s very clean and easy to read. She did all the research for it and put a lot of time into it. I hope she continues to make awesome things for us in the future. Also in the Election section a big shout out to Ian and Scotty for helping me out and writing articles in it. They saved me from having to write three separate ones and design the page.

And we’re done! It was my least favorite paper this semester, but we’ll get better. Peace out. -Matt

Oh, don't be sad! That lead photo on page 1 was the strongest news photo of the semester!
