Slops:

The lead art for the paper was pretty cool. Even cooler Drake and Bobby went out on Wednesday and took these photos. That’s so awesome when people will do that! However, we accidentally put that they’re only “Staff Photographer” it should actually read “Senior Photographers” Oops!

In the bottom box (the thing at the bottom of the front page) we put the wrong page number for the SGA voting spread. We also completely left out Opinions. Oops! Another thing that slipped through the cracks!

Scotty put together an awesome front page soccer package. It really liked how it looked, especially the action shots. But, the photos had the colored border curse again. It’s very hard to see, but all three photos have a blue border. Sometimes you just gotta hate color. Other than that, a very strong package!

The package on the second page of the Close Up section was pretty good. I loved the illustration and the sidebar. However, we forgot to give credit to the illustrator (Tim Little) and the photographer (I’m not even sure who took the assignment!) Credits may not seem like a big deal, but it really is. When someone puts time and effort into doing something, we want to go out of our way to thank them with credit. Besides, if they’re going to use it for their portfolio or something they need that credit!

Props:

Our designer Rebecca Burns is amazing. She puts such effort and time into everything she does. This SGA ballot is amazing. She used all the compiled bios and information submitted. Then she chose the most important things and used them next to the names. Then she arranged and made the package beautiful. Very good job!

Katelyn wrote a great headline to go with this well-written article. Hilary did a great job in her writing and photography. She found information I never would have thought to try and find and she wrote it in an interesting way. Very good package! And a great clever headline to pull people in so they’ll want to read it.

I love this stand alone photo; it’s great. I like it for two reasons. Mainly because it’s a good photos of a crazy event that happened on campus. If you didn’t see it, this guy is being carried by his friends because it’s his birthday! I also like it because I had people ask me if I knew what had happened because they saw this on campus so it’s an informative picture for people’s curiosities. Kudos to Mandy for taking a great photo and filling the cutline with great information!

Colin did a great job with the photos (they’re even better in color!) I also really liked the Q&A that Sam did. He had a hard task to figure out what to ask a mascot who, essentially, isn’t real. I think he asked some good questions and got great answers. A big thanks to Thunder for giving us the time to talk to him! Also a good headline choice By Scotty!

That’s pretty much it. There were some spacing errors and some styles not matching up throughout the paper, but we’re still working on all that. We had a lot of new writers this issue and it presented unique challenges, but all in all I think we had a pretty solid paper. Nothing too major was wrong. Hopefully it stays like this or gets even better!
Until next time!

  1. I was gonna comment that same thing, it was totally Hilary that came up with the clever headline, don't give me the credit! And the sentence under a headline is called a deckhead for all of you who were sitting in suspense!

  2. Hey Matt, I came up with the headline for my article, but not the sentence under it, what's that called again? LoL!
    Love,
    Hilary Thompson

    P.S.:
A big shout out to all the editors, known of this would be possible without all of your hard work! Thanks so much and please know that you are immensely appreciated!

  3. That one picture for the stoplight at West Campus would have been a lot better minus the Magnolia bus. Just sayin'.
