Aubri Lanes hosts fashion show, displays spring looks
“Looking good is never easy,” sang Jimmy James in his song “Fashionista” over the loud speakers at Aubri Lane’s charity fashion show.
That lyric was certainly not true for the models wearing dresses from the French Vill’edge this past Tuesday, which went on at Parkhurst Hall despite an alleged incident involving a man with a knife.
The fashion show was a collaboration between the event coordinator at the restaurant, Traci Medders, and her husband Jason Medders who is the manager. They tapped into the talents of Christopher Macken, who has his own cosmetic company based out of Milledgeville, who acted as emcee, and Adeline Bramlett, the owner of the French Vill’edge.
“It was sad that we had 200 people RSVP and only a handful were able to show up because of that crazy guy with the knife,” said Macken.
Despite the troubles the show continued after a slight delay and many Kappa Delta members were there to support their sisters in the fashion show.
Susan Elizabeth Cordle, a Kappa Delta and education major, was excited about the show and won a makeover from Christopher Macken during the raffle.
“I was excited for the show because the proceeds from the tickets go to the philanthropy of the sorority with the most sisters there,” Cordle said.
Hilary Lassetter, freshman and another Kappa Delta sister, said that the money, if they won, would go to their biggest charity this year Prevent Child Abuse America.
“I think the fashion show was a great idea. We get a chance to see our sisters in a fashion show and come out to Aubri Lanes. I’ve never been here before,” said Amanda Jackson, Kappa Delta sister and freshman.
After some appetizers where eaten the fashion show began.
“I want the focus to be on the clothes,” said Bramlett, who picked the clothes from her store.
The clothes were pretty summer dresses of all styles. Flower print was the most popular style, but eyelet patterns were also seen. A popular trend for summer seems to be the exposed zipper, which definitely adds interest to the outfit. Summer shoes were also seen in styles like sandals and wedges.
Delta Zeta and mass communication major Michelle Burke was a model during the show. She wore a houndstooth dress.
“I was excited to be involved with the show. One of my sorority sisters is a server here and she sent out a message that they were looking for models. So we all went to the French Vill’edge to get fitted and see what style looked best on us,” Burke said.
