My Fashion Forward Valentine

Written and photographed by Danielle Paluga.

This photo shoot was inspired by countless February issues of “Teen Vogue” and the lovely locales around the city of Milledgeville. The shoot and attire were styled by Joanna Sullivan and Danielle Paluga.

Valentine’s Day: It’s the holiday single people love to hate and many couples hate to love. It is one of the busiest days for restaurants and other date venues. This brings up the question: What should you do on Valentine’s Day?

If you are single, opt for a nice dinner with the parents, or friends who are also single. This does not mean you can slack on your outfit though. Part of the holiday’s charm is that it is a shot of color in a bleak and dismal season otherwise known as winter. Embrace reds and bright pinks, but don’t worry, you can always tone it down with a black skirt or pants.

If you are lucky enough to have a significant other why not go all out? Dress up and go out on the town.

Elena Henson, a freshman, said her best dates were with her boyfriend, Parker Kempf, a sophomore and outdoor education major, and those were always spontaneous.

“I love unusual stuff. Anything a little outside the box. Especially adventures.” Henson said.

They both love the occasional fancy dinner, but prefer chill dates.

On what she likes to see Parker wear, she said:

“He has his outdoorsy garb because that’s his thing. But then sometimes he’ll bust out some suspenders or some neon bright shorts. I love that he’s goofy and doesn’t care what people think.”

Her boyfriend echoes her sentiments saying that he likes relaxed dates, too. So it seems, ladies, if you are the one planning a Valentines Day date, hotdogs are definitely a go.

Parker epitomizes the sweet boyfriend by describing what he likes Elena to wear:

“My favorite outfit of Elena’s is sweatpants, one of my long-sleeved shirts, no make up, and looking beautiful as ever.”

Phillip Jackson Webber, a junior rhetoric major, loves simple but romantic dates.

“I love it when my date dresses up and like the fact that she put time in to getting ready. I am not picky but when my date voluntarily does something like that I think it’s special,” he said.

On his favorite Valentine’s Day he surprised his then girlfriend at her door with a gift.

Overall, just have fun this Valentine’s Day whether you are in a relationship or single. Dress up as you see fit, but you can never go wrong with a little black dress paired with red or pink accessories.
