SGA’s WGUR radio show starts Monday
The Student Government Association approved several bills during this past Wednesday’s meeting. Topics ranged from SGA’s new radio program to approving funding requests for various student organizations.
SGA will begin hosting its very own radio show Mondays at 8 p.m. on WGUR. Each week an SGA senator will be able to update listeners on upcoming events for the GCSU campus and the Milledgeville community. Students will be able to call in to the radio station to ask questions or make comments that they may have.
“We are excited for students to be able to communicate directly with SGA and hope the students utilize this as a new resource to gain answers to any questions they have,” SGA Press Secretary Jamie Knox said.
SGA unanimously agreed to assist the GCSU Art Tank in an exhibition lock-in by allocating $200 toward the event. The funding will help purchase various art supplies. Through the event the Art Tank hopes to spark creativity and involvement in the art department while broadening their understanding of various studies of art. The SGA logo will be seen on all advertising for the event as a thank you gesture from the Art Tank and its acknowledgement as the exclusive sponsor for the event.
“I am really excited to have the support from SGA,” said Sara Rincon, president of Art Tank. “It will help out a lot for the event and to continue to get the name out to the community.”
In other business, the GCSU fishing team gained funding of $1,000 for new jerseys. Having been in existence for a year, the fishing program was recently ranked No. 6 in the nation by FLW Outdoors magazine. The team has been actively gaining sponsorships, raising money, as well as using personal money in order to participate in tournaments across the country. As the team will be taking part in many more country-wide tournaments, many of which will be televised, the SGA Senate agreed that the new jerseys will help to promote both the team and GCSU.
Lastly, the SGA has agreed to help sponsor a trip for staff members of The Colonnade to attend the Southeastern Journalism Conference at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La., on Feb. 11. The Colonnade has received several award nominations this year.
SGA plans to cover the remaining proposals as well as new business during next Wednesday’s meeting.
