Ladies take shutout loss, rain postpones several matches
“It didn’t go as well as we wanted to,” Head Coach Steve Barsby said. “We are in a tough part of our schedule. They do a great job cheering their teammates on, and I think that sometimes they forget about cheering themselves on.”
On Friday, Feb. 27, the Lady Bobcats were all set to play on the road against Erskine University when the game was postponed due to weather.
Then, when the Lady ‘Cats were at home and prepared to face Clark Atlanta, the intense amount of rain caused another match to be postponed.
In the only match of the week, sophomore Bertille Lion, third singles for the Lady Bobcats, had her record drop to three wins with four losses, and the doubles record went also went to three wins with four losses.
“I think I had been playing (well) for the first set,” Lion said. “In the second I kind of struggled in the beginning and then I was just not playing the ball (well).”
Lion’s doubles partner, junior Diane Danna, the second singles for the Bobcats, now has a singles record of two wins with five losses and a doubles record of three wins with four losses.
“All of us should be more consistent,” Danna said. “From the No. 1 to the No. 6 we play all the matches, up-down, up-down. We should be more consistent during the matches.”
The women’s team now has a Peach Belt Conference record of 3-3 and a 3-4 overall record. Both tennis teams have a busy schedule ahead of them this week; the men’s team has four matches and the women are scheduled for three matches.
“Me and the assistant coaches will talk about what went wrong today,” Barsby said. “We will talk to the girls about it and try to change it in practice.”
