Our Voice
Most will spend the fleeting days of their fall semester worried about final exams. Cram sessions, overdoses of caffeine and overall grumpiness are all side effects.
It seems to be the one time where students from freshmen to post-grads feel the pinch. If you haven’t spent time in our wonderful campus library, exam week has no problem forcing the introduction.
Even if you haven’t really put that full effort in the last few months, now is your time to step up. Slacking could mean the difference between not getting the A you know you deserve or that C you gotta have.
Try to keep your head on straight the next week or so. Finals pack a major chunk of our grades into one test, presentation or group project. Prepare yourself the best way you know how and go in there with a fearless attitude.
Some exams could feel like five hours instead of two and some change, but you are up to the challenge. Just remember how great it will feel when you’re done.
The post-exam shuffle might go like this. Exit finals and/or final, scream or celebrate quietly, get gypped at the book store when that $200 book brings back like $20 (a little cash is better than nothing right?), perhaps spend the newly acquired legal tender at a downtown establishment as you relieve stress into the wee hours, or bypass the last step and safely head home.
All the sayings apply here. “Monkey off the back,” “weight off the shoulders” and any other funny or vulgar words a college student can put together. College Christmas breaks are incredible, so see the light at the end of the tunnel. Besides summer, what’s better than a few weeks off without those higher education worries shooting hundreds of stress shots directly into your brain.
The Colonnade wants you to enjoy your glorious break away from it all. The Christmas holidays are more special than any material items, special cookies or gourds of flashing lights. Cherish time spent with your family and loved ones.
Take some time to reflect on one more semester checked off your to-do list. Be thankful for the experiences you’ve been through as we head into a new year. The relationships, good and bad times and the knowledge you attain at GCSU are moments you will never forget.
The Colonnade is putting the finishing touches on our last issue of 2008. We could not be here without you guys and look forward to another semester of growth and experiences.
As we grow one year older and wiser, the Colonnade will continue to mature and adapt to meet your needs. We hope all our readers study hard and enjoy the time off.
