Athlete of the week: Lyric Burnett
The GCSU Athletic Department has named Lyric Burnett, junior forward on the Bobcat soccer team, its athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 12.
Burnett had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win against Georgia Southwestern, doubling each total on the season and giving her six total points, tying her for fourth on the team. This also gave her 11 career goals, tying her for third all-time at GCSU.
This award is the first for Burnett in her career, though not her best performance. Her standout game was against Lander in 2006, when she recorded the first hat trick in school history.
Burnett’s role has increased greatly this season from 2007, as she has started ten of 12 games so far. She had only 5 career starts until this season.
Her solid play has helped guide the Bobcats to a No. 21 national ranking and No. 3 in the southeast region poll.
