Global warming just a cult belief
Environmentalists and liberals often claim that President Bush and conservatives take part in a fundamentalist ideology, especially in issues of religion and war. The Christian Right is considered to be the characterization of the new Republican Party. Fundamentalism as defined by TheFreeDict-ionary.com reads: “A usually religious movement or point of view characterized by a return to fundamental principles, by rigid adherence to those principles, and often by intolerance of other views.” I’m not sure that the modern Republican Party fits that definition, especially in terms of intolerance to other views. But sure, on an individual basis I’m sure there are intolerant conservatives.
But I do know that environmentalists who can’t go outside on a warm day without mentioning how we are just a few years away from global warming destruction are fundamentalist. What are they fundamentalist about? Their global warming cult.
Let’s examine how they are fundamentalist first. The idea that man-made global warming exists is a point of view. There is nothing wrong with having a point of view, I actually have several. It also requires the point of view to be characterized by a return to fundamental principles. These principles are that modern day advances and society are causing global warming and must stop. For this to happen, the U.S. needs to give up cars, at least until cars are made that don’t pollute. Global citizens should also stop eating meat, especially from cows because that creates more demand for cows which produce a methane gas which environmentalists consider a leading cause of global warming. Environmentalists have also scheduled city-wide blackouts like the one they have planned for Atlanta and 23 other major world cities at 8 p.m. on March 29. It is scheduled to last an hour and be called Earth Hour. I hate to be the one to point this out, but if someone is looking to rob a bank in Atlanta, I think I know which day and hour they’ll pick out. Fundamentalist global warming alarmists want Americans to change their eating, transportation and living habits to adhere to their strict living standards.
How can a global citizen adhere to these demands? Don’t drive a car, instead ride a bike or take the bus. Don’t eat meat, instead eat fruits, vegetables and the french fries from McDonalds which now are made without meat (I know, they used to be so good). Additionally, you’ll need to turn off your electricity, and if you become tempted to use electricity you should probably just move to a cave.
But honestly, do you ever see any environmentalists take these measures? No way. Mr. Inconvenient Truth himself, Al Gore, uses 20 times as much electricity as the average U.S. Household as reported by The New York Times. So what do the elite environmentalists do to purge their conscience? They buy energy offset credits. This sounds a lot like what an older, fundamentalist version of the Catholic Church used to do by selling indulgences. Of course, they saw the error of their ways and stopped about half a millenia ago because they didn’t want to be tainted by this fundamentalist practice.
Most environmentalists are also headstrong about their beliefs. In fact, many will not accept the possibility that they could be wrong. They state with absolute certainty that the science is on their side. In reality there are 20,000 scientists that have signed a petition to the United States government stating that man-made global warming does not exist. There is no question that there is serious doubt that exists about whether humans are the cause of global warming or if global warming even exists.
President Bush’s famous line at the 2002 State of the Union Address where he stated to all nations around the globe that “You are either with us or against us.” Is considered by some to be a fundamentalist pro-American quote. Environmentalists are the same fundamentalist way in terms of global warming. They often state that there is no chance that they are wrong, meaning that an individual must agree with them, or be wrong. Andrew Sullivan, in The Conservative Soul, writes about how Christianity uses what he considers to be the fundamentalist idea of a rapture to bring people to their faith. He considers this to be the “side with us, or ultimately die, or spend eternity in Hell” like the most extreme sector of almost every religion believes. In their own way, environmentalists practice this idea. Side with us, or drown when global warming causes the oceans to engulf each of us. However, in its current form, the global warming faith has potentially the most dismal ending/apocalypse, with everyone facing death including the global warming faithful.
A large part of a fundamentalist fight is to have younger generations forcibly indoctrinated to a particular ideology. In fundamentalist Muslim nations they teach the Koran and force all students regardless of religion to abide by Sharia Law (the Koran’s law). The most extreme fundamentalist Christians in America want all public schools to teach creationism as the only possible origin of humans. Not to be outdone, fundamentalist global warming alarmists in California want global warming to be in every school science textbook and global warming to be a required lesson for every grade. The California Science Teachers Association is all for the idea because as Executive Director Christine Bertrand states, “There’s no argument that there is climate change.” Leaving no room for doubt, huh, sounds a little fundamentalist to me. Ask any fundamentalist person, and you will find out that a top priority is always raising the next generation to think like them.
To prove that global warming has turned into a cult I look at the Merriam-Webster definition of cult: A usually small group of people characterized by such devotion, with a body of adherents. Global warming alarmists may not be a very small group, but they certainly have devotion. In fact, I have to give credit to them, for such a boring issue they sure do make a big deal of it. There are a number of adherents, to be a good global warming fundamentalist you must give up meat, cut down on your use of electricity when possible. You must either drive a hybrid or use mass transportation. There is redemption for driving a car, if you cover it in bumper stickers about how you love the environment. If you have a Facebook profile you must make it a “green page,” stupid application I know. Lastly, you must let everyone know that global warming exists, and there is no doubt that it is man-made. If someone questions you, then you tell them all the scientists say so. If they ask what scientist and you’re at a loss for words because the only reason you bought into this in the first place was because your science teacher told you so, then tell them to watch “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Indeed, An Inconvenient Truth is the holy work of the Global Warming faithful. In California all new buildings must be “green certified” by the U.S. Green Building Council. For a hotel, a requirement to being “green certified” is replacing the Gideons Bible with “An Inconvenient Truth.” Unfortunately, I’m not making this up. The cult of global warming is alive and well, and through the use of government measures and mandates this fundamentalist cult will continue to try to entrap all Americans in their beliefs.
