GCSU honors faculty for 10-30 years of service

On Thursday Feb. 21, 2008 GCSU faculty and staff gathered with family and friends at the 2007 Service Recognition and 2008 Retirement Ceremony. Friends and family of faculty members came from all over to celebrate with their loved ones for these great accomplishments. Many faculty and staff members were recognized for their many years of astounding service to our university, and thankfully only a few others had to say a final goodbye to GCSU.
President Dorothy Leland opened the ceremony with her appreciation for all of the faculty and staff and her hopes that friends and family throughout the ceremony would recognize this appreciation. All the honorees in Arts & Sciences that day seemed to understand that all of their hard work had not gone unseen. With smiles upon their faces and sparkles in their eyes, honorees sat down with loved ones reflecting on the many years spent at GCSU.
One retiree, Donna Gautier, shared her experience. Gautier is a two-time graduate of GCSU. She majored in elementary education for her undergraduate and later received her master’s in education. She started off teaching at a public school in Baldwin County and stayed there for seven years.   Gautier started working on the library staff twenty-two years ago and has not left. She has been recognized numerous times for her impressive work ethic and widely known as the brains behind the library. Sadly Gautier has decided it is time to catch up on other things. After retiring she hopes to take up sewing and spend more time at her church. She also has a one-year-old grandchild who she hopes to spend as much time with as possible.
When asked what she loved most about GCSU Gautier simply stated, “The people and working with the students.”
It happened that another honoree felt the same way. Frank McLin, a GCSU custodian, also shared his love for the people here on campus. McLin was honored for his twenty-five years of service and explained how much he loved just about everything about the university. His two sisters, who were tickled with his honor, accompanied him to the ceremony.
