The Season Pass
So you are new to GCSU and you have a few questions about the schools athletics program. Well, I am here to answer three of the most common questions about Bobcat athletics.
Question number one: Do we have a football team?
Answer: No, we do not have a football team. And no, we are not getting a football team anytime soon. But really, why do we need a football team? We have 10 excellent varsity athletics programs. A football team would take entirely too long to build, cost too much money, and dare I ask where the team would play?
Question number two: So you say we have a strong athletics program, how strong is it?
Answer: Very, very strong. GCSU teams compete in the Peach Belt Conference of the NCAA’s Division II. As a person who has watched quite a bit of college sports, and I mean I am nearly obsessed, I feel like I am qualified to say that the PBC is one of the most competitive conferences in the nation in all of the sports GCSU competes in. In fact since the PBC’s first year of competition, 1991-1992, the conference has accounted for 24 various national championships.
I told you that to tell you how competitive GCSU’s teams are in the conference.
GCSU teams win, alot. The Baseball team is the two time defending PBC champion, both basketball squads are contenders each year, the tennis teams both finished ranked in the top 20 nationally last season, golf has mustered 10 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and ended last year with a No. 7 national ranking. These teams are good.
Final question: Okay, so the teams are good, but how much does it cost to go watch them play?
Answer: This is the best part of GCSU athletics. It costs you nothing to attend athletic events. It is one of the few fun things to do around this town that does not considerably lighten your wallet. And we know that as a college student you don’t have that much money anyways.
So get out there and support you Bobcats. They are good, but your support makes them even better.
