Working for the Mouse
The semester is over, and while most students are packing their belongings to head home for the summer, a small percentage of students are packing for their journey to ‘the happiest place on earth.’
A group of approximately ten Georgia College students will be joining a team of 55, 000 cast members when they enter the Disney College Program later this month in Orlando, Florida.
Students will be given the opportunity to live, learn and earn as they work with the program.
“During their time with the college program, students can take classes that correspond to GCSU courses,” said Kate McWilliams, Disney Campus Representative,
“while working in challenging environments, networking and meeting people from all across the world.”
Even though the moment of departure is quickly approaching these students, their preparation actually began months ago.
In March, a Disney recruiter visited the Georgia College campus to host a presentation in conjunction with our campus reps.
“We work as a recruiter up until the day of the presentation by putting up posters and sending emails,” said Michael Whiteman, Disney Campus Representative, “Then we let the Disney recruiter take over.”
A few weeks after the presentation, students receive a letter with Disney’s decision for their acceptance into the program.
“As a music major, I saw the Disney College Program as a way to network and gain insight into the entertainment industry,” said Jill Albano, 2007 college program participant, “I am hoping I get to work as a character performer during my time in the program.”
Most students use this program as a way to meet and live with people from all over the world, to learn through networking and to earn real-world job experience.
Disney is known as the place where dreams come true, and for these students, the Disney College Program is only the beginning.
