GCSU Admissions Get Tougher
Admission into Georgia College & State University is becoming more and more difficult. Up to forty five percent of applications received have been turned away. This comes on the heels of GCSU having the third highest SAT scores for incoming freshman for Fall 2006.
With over 3,500 applications received, the GCSU admissions office has formed a highly competitive pool of prospective students to choose from.
This years pool is the most competitive it has ever been at GCSU, with just over 1,900 applicants being accepted to this point, an admission rate of just fifty five percent.
Senior assistant director of admissions Jesse Bowen believes tougher admissions will only make the university stronger.
“Having a competitive admissions policy will not only benefit current students and staff, but the alumni as well,” said Bowen. “GCSU is becoming a strong, academically minded environment.”
Applications were received from all over the state. Well
rounded students with excellent academics and extra curricular activities were selected first.
Kayla McCollam, future GCSU student, was one such applicant.
“Well I am the president of my class and in a lot of clubs, so I know that helped me get accepted, I was on the waiting list for a while until they finally accepted me,” she said with a smile. “I know quite a few of my friends haven’t been admitted yet.”
Bowen believes admission into GCSU will only get tougher as the university gains popularity around the state.
“We are becoming the first choice for many students, with the type of education we offer with our smaller class sizes,” Bowen said. “We have become a great option for students who wish to further their education.”
