College students spend time studying abroad

Over 200 students at Georgia College & State University are starting the summer off with a bang on study abroad trips overseas.
Students from GCSU plan to get a hands-on-outlook on another culture while getting an educational experience of a lifetime.
“Students who go on study abroad learn a lot about who they are and where they fit into the world,” said Study Abroad Adviser, Liz Havey.
Seventeen possible countries that students plan to go on this summer include China, Germany, England, Italy and France.
Students on the program typically take three to six credit hours of coursework due to the shorter time span.
“The course work on the study abroad program is a little different, it is a little more hands on which gives students more of a physical foundation,” said Havey.
Assistant Professor of History at GCSU, Dr. Stephen Auerbach is coordinating the study abroad program to Paris, France with the European Council, which provides study abroad programs for University System of Georgia students in locations throughout Europe.
The European Council has faculty members from a variety of public universities through the University System of Georgia.
“I think study abroad benefits the students mainly by taking the students on site and showing them the important historical, cultural, artistic places and museums first hand,” said Dr. Stephen Auerbach, assistant professor of history at GCSU.
Students on the Paris study abroad program can take up to two classes with 16 courses available.
Some of the courses available include classes in history, English, geography, film, mass communications, music and French.
The classes offered to the students depend on whether he or she is taking a Maymester or a summer study abroad program.
The students on the Paris study abroad trip leave on June 28 and will return on August 4.
As summer is quickly approaching, students begin to get to get excited about their study abroad opportunities.
“I am looking forward to actually seeing the sites that I will be learning about in my History classes I will be taking, said Jonathan Banas, GCSU history major.
