Letters to the Editor

Iraq mission accomplished?

Dear Editor,

Four years since the invasion of Iraq, America is no closer to bringing peace to the country.  Instability with our own administration shows the faults of the misconceptions surrounding the invasion.  After four years of conflict, the administration has failed to define the meaning of victory and a purpose to be in Iraq.  First, it was to find weapons of mass destruction; there were none.  Second, to fight terrorism; there has yet to be a link found between Saddam and Al-Qaeda.  Third, bring democracy to the region; democracy cannot be forced upon a group of people.  With the pursuit of building a new democracy, the administration failed to recognize the cultural aspects of the region and the millennia-long opposing beliefs of the Shiites and Sunnis.
Republicans push the idea that the Iraqi people disliked Saddam, but they failed to mention that the Middle East region is strongly opposed to colonialism, leading to the opposition of American forces.  These misunderstandings, lies and utopian ideas of the administration led us into a war that America was unprepared for with no real objective.
The recent uncovering of the conditions of Walter Reed Medical Facility only shows the administration’s concern for its own soldiers.  Scores of innocent lives have been ruined because of a personal agenda of the president.  Congress is responsible for allocating the power to the President, and it is up to Congress and the voices of concerned Americans to stop this raving administration.

    Sincerely,
James Odom,
