Max Noah Singers Valentine’s Day Rendezvous
Georgia College and State University’s Max Noah Singers held a Valentine’s Day Rendezvous concert Feb. 10 at the First Methodist Church. They were directed by Dr. Jennifer Flory.
“We look for excuses to get dressed up,” explained Natasha Lee, a junior music major and a member of the Max Noah Singers. “So we were like, ‘Let’s make it semi-formal, and let’s dress up and have fun.’”
Guests were seated at decorated tables lit with candles and presented with an array of hors d’oeuvres and desserts, cooked by the members of the Max Noah Singers.
“I ended up wrapping 150 cocktail weenies,” Lee laughed.
Lee performed solos in “When I Fell in Love” and “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” as well as the group numbers.
The songs ranged from Broadway musicals such as “The Music Man” and “West Side Story” to popular tunes such as “Taylor, the Latte Boy.”
“We thought there was great variety in the music,” said Jean McCrawry, who attended the performance. “It really came across as a valentine.”
“It showed their talent in music very well,” Linda Ellison agreed.
McCrawry also commented on the professionalism of the Max Noah Singers.
“What I liked was as the young people were going about (the evening), they felt so at ease and made everybody feel at ease with them.”
Guests were invited to get up at any point during the performance and dance along with the music.
Christina Hawkins, a GCSU student, and Dave Sweeley, who attends UGA, planned to attend the Rendezvous in advance as a couple.
“I’m in the women’s ensemble and she told us about it, and I thought it sounded like fun.”
Proceeds from ticket sales and donations go towards expenses the Max Noah Singers’ 2007 tour.
Dr. Jennifer Flory, director of the Max Noah Singers, acknowledged plans to make the Valentine’s Day Rendezvous an annual tradition.
