Lady Bobcats lose 71-66 to Lady Lakers on Homecoming
The GCSU Lady Bobcats lost to 17th ranked Clayton State University 71-66 in a heartbreaker on Homecoming Day. The Lady Bobcats entered the game 16-6 overall, 7-4 in conference play. Clayton State University Lady Lakers entered the game 18-4 overall, 8-3 in conference play.
Junior Marquita Driskell led the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds and junior forward Ashley Williams led the team in rebounds with 14 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the beginning of the game, leading by as much as 11 points. But after strong defense and forced turnovers, the Lady Lakers came back to finish the half on top 26-22.
“To me where the game was actually lost was the last eight minutes of the first half,” Coach Carrick, head women’s basketball coach, said. “(In) the last eight minutes of the first half we didn’t have a basket until Marquita made a layup in the last 30 seconds, so we went (nearly) eight minutes without scoring a basket in the first half.”

“We played really hard. We kept the intensity and we really wanted to win,” Driskell said. “You have to give them their credit. Both teams played really hard.”
