Men Dominate NGCSU

The GCSU men’s basketball team improved to 6-4 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) with an 86-63 over North Georgia College & State University.

The men came out strong in the first half shooting 54 percent from the floor. With the guidance of junior Aaron Clark and senior Shedjie Childs the Bobcats would quickly put this game out of reach. Clark helped get the offense flowing by making his first three shots and Childs controlled the tempo of the game by keeping the offense flowing with his 12 assists. Clark scored 18 points with a 72 percent field goal average.

“When Childs is running the offense we have control of the game,” Clark said. “Childs does a great job of controlling the pace and flow of the game.”

The main difference in the game was the Bobcats defense and aggressiveness in rebounds. GCSU out rebounded the Saints 41-20 and scored 26 points off NGCSU turnovers.

“Our guys did a great job on the boards,” head coach Terry Sellers said. “We were solid on both offense and defense.”

More importantly the game served as a way for Sellers to get underclassman an opportunity to get playing experience. Sophomore Bishop Tiller and freshman Graham Martin each got over 20 minutes of playing time. Tiller finished with eight points and four rebounds, while Martin scored six points and had two assists.

“It is always important to give our younger players minutes,” Sellers said. “You never know when we will need them in a crucial situation. If they don’t get an opportunity to gain experience then it is hard to expect them to step up when we need them the most.”

GCSU next faces conference rival Columbus State on the road this Wednesday, Feb. 7.
