Renovations bring new flavor to Grill 155

Last fall, students of GCSU were met with a new restaurant, and this semester, improvements made to the Grill 155 promise to make a good thing even better.
One of the many on-campus dining options for students, the Grill 155 has plenty of appetizing entrees for those who crave a juicy burger and even for those who prefer vegetarian options. However, concerns and confusion about what the Grill 155 was arose from the dark glass windows, sending away hungry students who believed it was closed. Some of those who did go in were shocked at the prices.
Auxiliary Services Marketing Manager Michael Haun worked with Sodexho Retail Manager Billy Garland to create a solution.
“Thanks to George Mayor and the support of the Georgia College Physical Plant, we’ve increased lighting 100% so it’s brighter and more inviting,” Garland said.  “People now recognize it is a restaurant, not just a lot of chairs,”
The extremity of make-over was somewhat restrained by the limits of the historical district. Taking into consideration the historic southern architecture that beautifies the surrounding area when any construction or renovations are done is a must and upholds the quaint charm for which Milledgeville is renowned.
Using a stencil style known as edged glass, Grill 155, Chick-fil-a and the Ice Box all have additional identification to reduce questions concerning which facility is which.     “The lettering is elegant, simple, and pleasing to the eye,” Haun said.  “Now, we’re working on adding awnings to go over the various food court entrances so they stand out even more.”
Haun said the changes were needed to make the facilities more inviting to students and others wishing to eat there.
“We listened to customers and surveys,” Haun said.  “We’re here for both the students and community to ensure student’s wants and improve for the future.”
The Grill is busiest during the middle of the week.  Garland said that Grill 155 serves a steady stream of  30 – 45 customers a day, already a significant improvement over the peak of the previous semester.
By adding the $1.55 value menu and combo option, the prices are more within the financial range of most students.
Grill 155 offers soup selections, desserts, grilled cheeses, and the most popular item, the Philly steaks, which can be prepared with either beef or chicken. To ensure taste and quality, all food is prepared fresh and made to order.
Dining patron Kathy Maguire, a sophomore history major, loves the one-on-one attention she receives at the Grill
“It’s great getting your burger exactly how you want it, without any of the extras you don’t,” Maguire said.  “Other places, the food is slapped together so quickly, you don’t always get what you want.”
Garland praises the way visitors are treated at The Grill.  “
“(The food is) served with a smile, making you feel like the only person in the restaurant,” said Garland.
