Hot wings become science
Editor’s Note: Please remember that this test is not 100 percent accurate. This taste test only deals with one flavor of wings; there are many flavor varieties that are not accounted for during this examination. Use this only to help draw your own conclusion. Everything can be turned into a science, even wings.
There are many places in Milledgeville that sell wings on a daily basis, but who has the best? To help decide, the Features Section of The Colonnade decided to conduct a taste test, complete with judges, to help determine where students can eat some of the best wings in town.
Since the majority of students eat out in downtown, the restaurants that line Hancock Street became the focus of the test.
The examination consisted of hot wings from The Brick, Buffington’s, Velvet Elvis and Amici. Four people from the GCSU family were called upon to be the judges. They were Jamie Webster, a junior marketing major, Justin Haight, sophomore SGA senator, Lee Sandow, news editor for The Colonnade, and Dr. Noland White of the Psychology Department, who is a certified barbecue judge.
The judges ate three wings from each location and then filled out a survey where they rated the hotness, quality, presentation and overall taste of the wings. The test was completely anonymous; the judges did not know whose wings they were eating and were not informed until after all of the taste tests had been completed. This precaution helped prevent biased survey answers.
At the end of the examination, the surveys were collected and tallied to determine which wings received the highest scores. And the best hot wings in downtown Milledgeville belong to . . .
The Brick!
“(The Brick’s) were by far the best, they had the best heat, the best appearance and best meat quality,” Haight said.
White concurred and gave his opinion on Buffington’s hot wings.
“Wing one (The Brick’s) had the best flavor and heat content. Wing two (Buffington’s) was a good looking wing but the taste was sub-par,” White said.
Webster said The Brick’s hot wings were by far better than the rest. Sandow agreed, making the decision unanimous, saying that the hotness of The Brick’s wing were a little too intense for his taste buds.
“They weren’t bad going down, but I think they burned out my taste buds,” Sandow said.
So congratulations to The Brick. After being put head to head with other wings only yours rose to the peak of taste.
