SGA Meeting – Oct. 25, 2006

SGA Senate Meeting Session 7
Oct. 25, 2006

Budget: No change from last week.

Senator Seibel, vice chair for public relations, announced that there will be a table set up on campus Thursday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Also, there will be a bake sale on Oct. 31 to promote SGA and RSOs.

Members from Omicron Delta Kappa interrupted the meeting to announce that President Janessa Hartmann was invited into membership.

Senator Wilbanks proposed Bill #3, revised from last week, to allocate $455 toward “Dance to the Beat so Kids Can Eat,” a social and canned food drive put out by Sigma Alpha Omega. Bill #3 passed without dissent.

Bill #4 was proposed by Senator Lanier to allocate $150 toward a first annual Halloween party on front campus. Bill #4 passed without dissent.

Barron Webster was sworn in as a new SGA senator.

Resolution #3 was presented by Senator Burch to propose adding an official public relations committee to the SGA Constitution. Although there is currently an unofficial public relations group, this resolution would make it consistent, according to President Pro Tempore Martin. The first round of voting passed unanimously; it will be voted on again next week.

Bill #5 was presented by President Pro Tempore Martin to propose allocating $500 toward a Battle of the Bands on Nov. 2 on front campus. All money collected from ticket prices will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. There will be four bands which are comprised mainly of GCSU students. The event has been advertised on Z.97 radio station. Bill #5 was tabled and will be researched and discussed again next week.

Announcements:

Senator Wilbanks and others will be providing rides from downtown Milledgeville to Bobcat Village and other various apartments around campus from 10 pm. until 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 in memory of Evan Luke, a GCSU student who was killed this time last year.

On Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in the Hoke Dining Room, Dr. Harshbarger will be leading an informational meeting regarding students interested in pursuing a career in student affairs. The purpose of the meeting is to assess whether there is enough interest in the subject to develop a masters program.
