SGA Meeting – Oct. 4, 2006
SGA Meeting #4, Oct. 4, 2006
Bill #2
Bill #2 was presented by Senator Dean and amended Bill #1. Bill #2 proposed that SGA allocate $300 to GCSU Kappa Eta chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated for the Miss Black and Gold etiquette dinner on Oct. 20, 2006.
The cost for community members is $12; for GCSU students, it is proposed that it be lowered to $7. The compensation would be needed for the $5 difference. The total compensation amount would be $225 in addition to $75 for decorations.
By first proposing a friendly amendment (which was not accepted by Senators Dean and Longmire) then an unfriendly amendment, senators voted to allocate money for the ticket price compensation for GCSU students, but not to cover the cost of decorations.
The bill was tabled and will be discussed at next week’s meeting.
Resolution #1
Resolution #1 was presented by President Pro Tempore Martin to remove the University Students’ Council (USC) from the SGA Constitution at GCSU.
Martin and others felt like USC was not achieving the goals it set out to do, namely, weekend funding and office space reservations in the Student Activities Center. Basically, it was an extra step in the process of getting funding that was unnecessary and time consuming.
To remove a section from the Constitution, it must pass a 2/3 vote at two meetings and then pass a student poll.
Resolution #1 passed unanimously at this first meeting and will be discussed and voted upon again at next week’s meeting.
Resolution #2
This was basically the same issue as Resolution #1 except it pertained to SGA’s bylaws instead of the Constitution.
This resolution passed unanimously in the first round, and like Resolution #1, was tabled until next week.
RSO Approval
An anthropology club was approved unanimously as an official RSO of SGA.
