‘More than making money,’ new Entrepreneurship LLC

The Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community is now open for business at GCSU.
Located on the first floor of Wells Hall, the Entrepreneurship LLC provides its residents a unique opportunity to expand with new ways of thinking, and to become active in the community.
Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the school of business and instructor of the entrepreneurship class, teaches the concept is not limited to business decisions, it also includes new ideas.
“It’s not limited to making money”, Gilbert said. “It’s about being creative, not just business but ideas.”
The residents learn quickly about Gilbert’s view on entrepreneurship and apply it to their own lives.
Lauren Garrison, freshman accounting major, said “I do think the entrepreneurship way of looking at things will help me; it’s a different outlook from where I normally come from.”
The thinking outside-of-the-box mentality drives the residents of this LLC to perform well in their classes and become active.
“It seems like it would be a good experience to help better me” said Daniel Post, freshman business major. “The fact that I want to be a businessman one day, it seems like there would be positive aspects living in an LLC like Entrepreneurship.”
Matt Cagle, president of the dean student advisory board said “(I would have) become more active in school and business (if I had been in an LLC like Entrepreneurship . . . it’s) a good way to jumpstart a college career.”
Entrepreneurship is not restricted to business majors.
“It’s not just for business people, it’s for everybody,” said Daniel Troutman, Resident Assistant for the Entrepreneurship LLC “Dr. Gilbert has explained in a way that you don’t see entrepreneurship as just about business, you see it as a way of thinking.”
Students in Free Enterprise encourages the residents to get involved and apply the entrepreneurship way of thinking.  SIFE offers programs and projects, such as Habitat for Humanity, in which students can get involved.  SIFE is open to all majors and students at GCSU.
Garrison, who is looking into SIFE programs, said “(Entrepreneurship) will give me a better drive than what I normally would have.”
The drive that the residents have is the key to the success to this new LLC.
The strive for success is already happening, Marcus Green, a resident of the Entrepreneurship LLC was recently elected as a Student Government Association senator.
“They don’t just go to class for entrepreneurship, I believe they live it,” said Troutman “This is going to be the first year of something great.”
