2006 – 2007 SGA

Janessa Hartmann, President

Welcome to GCSU! My name is Janessa Hartmann and I am excited to be serving you as the Student Body President this year. I am a junior Environ-mental Science major and I claim The Netherlands as my home but now I am living in Alpharetta. SGA is an important role at GCSU and YOUR thoughts and opinions are needed to make it a better place. This year, one of our main focuses for SGA is to let students, faculty, and staff be aware that we are here and are ready to help as much as possible. GCSU is a great school, but if you think it should be better, let us know your ideas and we can help change it. I am dedicated to working for you and with you to make this year a pleasant and rewarding experience. I want to wish everyone a great school year with fun in and outside the classroom. Enjoy GCSU!

Rachel Hodge, Vice President

Hey Bobcats! My name is Rachel Hodge and I’m a junior Environmental Science major from Savannah, Georgia. This year, I have the honor of serving as your Student Government Association Vice President. I look forward to meeting many of you as you become involved with our campus RSOs and clubs. There are a lot of great things to know about SGA; not only do we delegate monetary funds to student organizations, but we also work hard to aid in the creation and implementation of policies that directly affect the student body. As Vice President, I want to be sure students know that SGA is here to serve you and find answers to your ‘what-ifs.’ With your input and ideas, the Student Government Association can positively influence monumental decisions to make student life the best it can be at Georgia College & State University.

John Barton, Attorney General

My name is Jon Barton and I am the Attorney General of the Student Government Association. I am a Senior History Major from Snellville, Georgia. As Attorney General, my goals this year are to continue to run an efficient Student Judicial Board (which I hope to never see any of you there), and to help SGA meetings to run as smoothly as possible. I am here to serve all students of Georgia College & State University. If there is anything at all I can do for you, feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to serving you this new school year.

Bianca Longmire, Secretary

Hello, my name is Bianca Longmire, and I am the current Secretary of the Student Government Association. I am a sophomore, with a concentration in Pre-Law, majoring in English of Creative Writing. I am a native of Valdosta, GA, but have been residing in Gwinnett County (Lilburn, GA), as of eight years. I am also a member of the SOAR Program, a High Achiever Mentor, Black Student Alliance, GIVE Center Volunteer, Dance Director (Union Baptist Church), and the reigning Miss Black and Gold.

I hope to serve as an agent of change for the years I remain at Georgia College and State University. Serving on the Executive Board for SGA will open the door for me to make many positive transformations. I have set a few goals for the upcoming year; they include but are not limited to the following:

To ensure that important matters brought to SGA are handled in a professional and efficient manner.

That I act accordingly as Secretary and handle all personal responsibilities, as stated in the SGA Senator Handbook.

To be aware of the issues of the student body at all times! “I am here to serve you!”

Will Thompson, Treasurer

I was born in Grayson Georgia, and went to high school at Grayson High School. I am a Political Science Major who has ambitions to go to law school. I have a 3.75 GPA and will be a senior this year. I am also the treasurer of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Senior Advisor for Student Political Movement, and member of Gamma Beta Phi and Alpha Lambda Delta. It is my goals to help keep a balanced budget for SGA, help all organizations in acquiring funds when they are needed for school wide events, help students on a personal basis with any financial problems and to help Greek Life at GCSU stay active and helpful to the student body.

What is SGA?

GCSU’s Student Government Association (SGA) serves the campus community by addressing student concerns, promoting understanding within the college community, and administering all matters which are delegated to the student government by the university President.

The responsibility for the governing of the student body is vested in the students themselves. All students are members of the SGA upon their enrollment and officers and Senators are elected on a yearly basis. The SGA has representation on most university-wide councils and committees and sets aside a portion of its monies to encourage organizations to sponsor activities which benefit all students.
