Emma Lou Diemer musical should have been mentioned

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my disappointment about the Variety Editor’s decision not to cover the Artist-in-Residency and concert of Dr. Emma Lou Diemer.

The Colonnade usually does a good job covering the performing arts events presented at GCSU. There have been very informative articles about productions by the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Theatre, and Dance.

The Colonnade has covered one of our three concerts this year and one outside event in which some of our choral singers participated. However, when a professor submits information about student events well in advance, I would hope that the leadership of The Colonnade would make an attempt to assign the article early and cover the events as they have in other cases. In this case, our Artist-in-Residence will be here for four days and there are many opportunities for non-choral students to attend various open sessions. Since an article could not be accommodated, I chose to disseminate the information in the form of a letter to the editor.

Dr. Diemer is an award-winning composer and performer and a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has written many works of varying difficulty, from hymns and songs to concertos and symphonies.
The Emma Lou Diemer Musical will take place Friday, April 21 at First Baptist Church in Milledgeville. There is no cost to attend.

I hope students who would like to attend will feel free to do so and I thank them for reading The Colonnade.

Sincerely,

The Max Noah Singers and
Dr. Jennifer Flory
Director of Choral Activities & Assistant Professor of Music
