Why aren’t pets allowed at Bobcat Village?

Dear Editor,

The amount of apartment complexes popping up around Milledgeville is astounding. The need for competition amongst them is growing and Bobcat is on the hit list for improvements – according to many residents and visitors. The list of complaints began when residents wrote into The Colonnade Vent about problems such as the channels changing on the TV, the strange Bobcat winking at you from the road and rent going up.

One way Bobcat Village can really vamp up their revenue is by allowing pets! Just think, allowing pets is a great way for the complex to make money and make their residents happy, as well as keep them as tenants. If Bobcat Village allowed just one side of the complex (the older ones for example because the halls are open, there are no study rooms for animals to roam about in and no laundry mat inside) they could make some major money. Even if not everyone wanted pets, the complex could still make tons of money. For example, if 100 residents agreed to pay $30 per month to have their pets in their apartment, Bobcat Village could be making $3,000 per month! Why not do this and use it towards improving our campus, or making Bobcat a better place to live?

Putting down a deposit is useless; why would the Bobcat administrative staff want to do this when they would essentially be making no money? Residents would get it right back when they move out.

Making money is what a college campus is all about, so why not make some by simply allowing pets? Having residents sign a contract saying they will pay for pet damages and charging monthly is much more reasonable. Pet allergies and sanitation have been a major concern among housing , however, if this was the case, then no major complexes would be allowed to have pets.

Bobcat has done a great job making improvements around our complexes and it is becoming a great place to live. However, with growing competition, Bobcat has some serious thinking to do in order to keep their residents loyal to them.

Sincerely,
