Afternoon classes cancelled next Friday for Honors Day
GCSU will recognize the outstanding achievements of its students and faculty at the 55th Annual Honors Day at 2 p.m., Friday, April 21, in Russell Auditorium. Classes will be canceled after 1 p.m., Friday, April 21, so that everyone has a chance to attend this important event.
Allen Kyle Hoffmeyer, the recipient of the University System of Georgia Academic Recognition Award, will be the speaker.
Each year since the 1987 session of the General Assembly, the chancellor of the University System of Georgia has brought attention to scholastic achievement at university system institutions by naming the recipients of the Academic Achievement Award. The student must be an undergraduate student, a resident of Georgia and have a 4.0 grade point average.
Allen Hoffmeyer, from Loganville, Ga., graduated from South Gwinnett High School in 2002. He entered GCSU in the fall of 2002 and will receive his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Minor in Physics this May.
Hoffmeyer is a member of Georgia College Phi Kappa Phi. With a cumulative 4.0 GPA; he will be the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Speaker for the class of 2006. He has also been on the President’s List every semester. He is a member of Gamma Beta Phi, Kappa Mu Epsilon, Omicron Delta Kappa, and is the current president of the student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America and the Society of Physics Students.
Hoffmeyer enjoys playing music and was the pianist for the GCSU jazz band, touring with the band in the Czech Republic and in West Palm Beach, Fla. He has been accepted at the Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue his doctorate in mathematics and said he hopes to work as an analyst and forecaster of financial markets, especially those involving derivatives and options.
