International student awarded prestigious AAF internship
GCSU senior marketing major Nichi Witayanonaketavee is among the 15 students in the nation to have been offered the prestigious Vance L. Stickell Memorial Student Internship by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
This important internship, which will be held this summer, includes a $5,500 scholarship. Witayanonaketavee, an international student from Thailand, is the second GCSU student to be selected within the past two years and said she is flattered with this opportunity.
“I really was not expecting to be one of the chosen students to get the internship,” said Witayanonaketavee. “It was a great surprise to me; I am excited.”
Witayanonaketavee, 22, was nominated chapter advisor by the J. Whitney Bunting School of Business AAF chapter and Marketing Professor Joe Schwartz.
“Witayanonaketavee is a great student. Her academic records are exceptional,” said Schwartz. “She deserves everything that is happening to her.”
According to Witayanonaketavee, Schwartz, the adviser of the Marketing Club, has helped her a lot and he was the one who advised her to apply for the internship.
This internship opportunity, which was established in 1988 by the Los Angeles Times and AAF, is a prestigious program that provides students with a 10-week summer internship. The program was created in honor of the Former Executive Vice President of Marketing for the Los Angeles Times, Vance L. Stickell. Besides having served as a chairman of AAF, Stickell is a member of the Advertising Hall of Fame.
The AFF is divided nationally into 15 districts located in three regions: Eastern, Central and Western, and it combines the power of major corporations, advertisers, advertising agencies, media companies, local advertising federations and college chapters to develop an integrated force in the advertising industry. The AFF were scheduled to notify this year’s chosen students about their matching with host companies on March 24.
“It is great to realize that our school has students with the potential to be chosen for an internship where only 15 students in the country are selected,” said junior marketing major Rodrigo Yamauti. “It certainly makes GCSU look good among the bigger schools.”
Some of last year’s host companies were Toyota, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times.
“I hope to get a good job here in the United States,” Witayanonaketavee said. “This internship can be a good start for my professional career.”
