Stainless spends spring break practicing and performing

While Middle Grades Cohort students were either taking a break from their hectic schedule or trying to catch up on all their work, Jason Jaros spent his Spring Break practicing and performing with his band Stainless.

For Jaros, music is an essential element of his life. No matter how demanding school is, Jaros makes time for what he loves most: music. Jaros has been playing in a band from Conyers, called Stainless for the last six years. He writes the lyrics and is their lead singer.

“If you do something you love, then things work themselves out,” he said.

Jaros went on to say that he loves the cohort and it’s been an awesome experience where he has met brilliant people. Jaros loves music more and said that music is the best part of him. Jaros joked about how he manages his time and said that he can’t watch TV or do anything except wake up, do homework and go to class. Truthfully though, he said that he tries to manage his time to fit in the most. Jaros admitted that he only feels stressed when there are tests and papers and gigs all at the same time and it feels like there is no time.

“I never get stressed about stuff with Stainless. That stuff is always worked out. The cohort by itself is usually a pretty stressful endeavor,” he said. “You just make time for what you love to do.”

Jaros said it is a challenge to make time for everything, but overall the band works well together and makes time for practice. They meet in Conyers and practice at least three hours each week, depending on whether or not they have a show. The guys balance school, work and families while trying to make it in the music industry.

Stainless is releasing their second EP (Extending Play) in mid-April, entitled Something More. Later they will release the full album. Stainless has been playing gigs in Atlanta and in Athens, but hopes to bring their sound to Milledgeville.

“Stainless is an alternative rock band,” explained Jaros, “we’re a little bit different than most people because we have hard rock sound but we have positive lyrics.”

Jaros went on to say that some of their songs have a negative tone to them, but for the most part, they try to provide positive music. Jaros said he is inspired to write lyrics from emotions, feelings or experiences he has had. He writes with plain language, using expressions that are familiar in order to communicate in a way that will be understood by most people. Jaros said his lyrics are written as if you had the experience, this is how you would say it.not too broad or vague. Jaros admits that as a musician it is good to create cool phrase, but that it is equally important to communicate so others can understand.

Jaros said that their music is for all ages and all kinds of people.

“We try to promote a good time for everybody and it’s definitely fun for everybody. If you’re communicating something that is true and that is real then it knows no boundaries, which is why the really good songs stand the test of time because it’s not about an age thing, it’s not just for a certain group, it’s something that’s real that everybody can relate to.”
