Spring Bling relieves the stress of midterms
The GCSU Campus Activities Board (CAB) promoted the Spring Bling, a week-long series of events to help students relieve the stress of midterm exams.
During midterm week, most students are anxious with all the exams and projects due. With the purpose of alleviating that tension, CAB encouraged students to leave the study room for a little while and get their minds on something more relaxing.
The fun activities hosted by CAB during these five days were Pizza Socials, Casino Night, Inflatables (big colorful slides and bouncers), a card (Spades) tournament and King Kong Movie Night. The events were held either on GCSU’s front campus or in the Students Activities Center’s Pine Lounge from Monday, Feb. 2 to Friday, Mar. 3.
“A lot of students (came) to the events,” said CAB Director Robert Buckley. “On Wednesday when we did the Inflatables, we were surprised with the amount of students that showed up.”
Buckley also said that the Spades tournament was a success as the Pine Lounge, which was filled up with students.
Many students approve and support the idea of CAB promoting events like these during midterm week.
“On these days that exams are coming up, our minds are dedicated to studies 100 percent of the time,” said sophomore Erick Siqueira. “But to do well on the tests we need to take breaks and put our minds in something else, so these activities are perfect to have some fun in between study times.”
Siqueira also said that he had a lot of fun at the Gladiator Joust on the Inflatables day on front campus.
“I wish we had this kind of activities every week of the year,” Siqueira said.
CAB’s Spring Bling, besides being a stress free event, encourages students to get together and get to know one another better.
“I like the CAB’s events because I always meet someone new at one,” said sophomore Karen Ramirez. “As an international student from Colombia***, I like to share cultures and make more American friends.”
CAB’s next event is Project Impact, which consists of a movie, speaker and a community service project that is around a centralized theme. The event will be held on March 22nd at the GIVE Center at 5 p.m. ****This is now out of date, look up something on the INFO page that can take its place.this date will be passed after the paper comes out
