Shop Stop
Lina’s in downtown Milledgeville is a great place to shop for specialized gifts and home decor.
Lina’s, which has been open for four and a half years, is owned by Paula Hallman, who named the shop after her mother.
The atmosphere in Lina’s is homey and welcoming. Sweet aromas of bath soap, sprays and body cream fill the air.
Lina’s offers many gift ideas for any occasion, like birthdays or anniversaries. Some of these gifts include: wines, gourmet foods, gift baskets, greeting cards and jewelry. The least expensive bottle of wine is $8, while the most expensive bottle is $14.
Gift baskets may be customized to fit personal needs, and are priced between $25 and $125. Tussie-Mussie, a compact cluster of flowers with bound stems that create a round bouquet, can also be customized for formals or weddings.
Gift registry and bridal registry are available and there are plenty of items to choose from. Lina’s has everything from cold remedy spritzer to Gullah Gullah gumbo, a food made with a southern style of cooking brought by West Africans.
Other gourmet food and treats accessible at Lina’s include: crab meat, she-crab soup, assorted flavors of tea- such as chai tea or amaretto tea, lemon cheesecake mix, drink mixers, various jams, candy and coffee.
Lina’s carries many miscellaneous items such as collectibles, candle holders, greeting cards, key chains, picture frames, beverage napkins, dinnerware and postcards. Collegiate items from various colleges are also sold.
Other items that were especially interesting included artwork by local residents depicting drawings of different landmarks in Milledgeville, such as GCSU’s front campus.
Lina’s is a little bit pricey for most college students, but every week there are special prices on several items. The specials change each week according to the new items that come in or the time of year.
Also, all college students are eligible for 10 percent off purchases.
Overall, Lina’s was very intriguing because of the range of items sold. Lina’s truly stands for what they claim to have: “unexpected treasures.”
