Time change for registration a risky proposition
Yet another change has been made to the registration process. The school has moved the time a student can first register from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. This change has brought up many concerns among the student body.
To move registration to 5 am. is to assume that students are willing to fire their computers up before the sun is even up. Are students really going to get up three hours extra early just to register? Students, as a general rule, are not morning people. Most already had a tough time getting up at 8 a.m. to register.
On the flip side, the university was short classes last semester and many students were left with not enough hours. Some students are desperate enough to forgo their three hours to get the classes they want.
Another concern is that if students have a problem, no one will be there to help. Even if the appropriate offices open early, it will not be early enough to help all those in need. What if a student has a hold or a fine they need to rectify to be able to register? This means that a student must wait for hours while others blissfully register away.
Responsible students will check ahead of time for any holds or other problems they may face, but sometimes glitches in the system are not students fault.
Most of the time, the classes that students need the most are the ones that fill up fast. If problems occur, a class that a student needs for their major might be filled up.
Although this change has some bright sides it is overshadowed by it dark sides. Some will say that there are too many risks involved.
Only time will tell.
