Not enough health awareness for men
Dear Editor,
As a student here at GC&SU, I have noticed all heath related iniatives and events are targeted towards women’s health issues. For instance, the breast cancer campaign last semester, ‘Love your Body Week,’ and more recently, the ‘Wear Red’ day were all geared toward women’s health. Why do men have no health issues worth being made aware about?
It is a known fact that women have longer life spans then men and it seems that the department of the university that is in charge of wellness does not mind perpetuating the current state of affairs. Many of the health problems that men suffer from can be averted by them being made aware of the lifestyle changes that they need to adhere to early in their lives, but this doesn’t seem to be a priority for those concerned. But their feet dragging is not hard to understand when you look at the fact that GC&SU was once a women’s- only college and at the moment there are more female students than males, so that makes things much clearer. Add to this the fact that it makes good business sense to take good care of the section of your clientele whom you make the most revenue from.
As for the men when it comes to health issues, you’d better look out for yourself!
Sincerely,
