Gwinnetians statistics overused at GC&SU
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to Josh Fulmer’s article “University Popular for ‘Gwinnetians’.”
This story is getting a little old for Gwinnett graduates and others alike. It started, for many of us Gwinnett graduates, during our senior year. As we all applied to colleges and received our acceptance letters, nicknames for GC&SU started flying. During spring semester of my senior year, conversations went a little something like this, “Where are you going to college again?” and I would reply, “GC&SU.” Immediately following my response I
would get the not so hilarious retort, “OH! Brookwood University! . Just like everyone else!”
Finally we got away from all the UGA and Georgia Southern bound graduates and their not so funny nicknames for GC&SU, thinking that we’d escaped from the comments about being a Gwinnetian in Milledgeville- only to come to Convocation and hear repeating statistics on just how many of the new freshmen are from the Gwinnett County Public School System. Now, I’m heading towards the end of my sophomore year here. I thought we had already beaten a dead horse with all the stories and stats on Gwinnett’s student body, but apparently, we haven’t.
I’m sure all the readers, from Gwinnett and the other 158 counties in Georgia are still completely enthralled with hearing the tales of all us Gwinnetians, but I can say that they are more than played out for me.
Sincerely,
Sarah-Kate Murray
