Christians should be more open-minded

Dear Editor,

I am writing, again, in response to letters pertaining to Shreve’s article on homosexuality– more specifically to the narrow- minded bigots of today. As I said previously, my son is in a committed relationship of some 13 years. He is a homosexual. I am proud of my son. You say, “How can this be?”

Well let me look at the mores of the typical heterosexual in today’s society.

A committed relationship is considered a success among ‘committed Christians straights’ if it lasts three months. Where in your Bible does it say anything in favor of one night stands, ‘hooking up’ (I believe that’s what you call it)? I cannot think of anything more closely akin to Soddom and Gomorrah than that which the so called ‘sexual revolution’ has spawned.

Tell me Mrs. Faulkner, Mr. Rauschenberg and Mr. Petershein– I have friends of all religions, who have beliefs in Krishna, Judism, Hindi, Moslim and Sikh. Which of you three, ‘right thinking’ religious, are, in a face to face discussion, willing to tell them everything they have been taught is wrong and if they don’t convert to your version of Christianity they are doomed? (Remember the Spanish priests and the Indians of Central America, the Inquisition?) Because you know this for a fact and there is no denying your superior knowledge of what are the facts.

There is no sin except that of a mind so small as to let no other knowledge displace that already installed.

So to all you Christians who KNOW the truth and have no room for growth, you, like stagnant water will kill life, and stink while you are doing it. Let thinking people inhabit the world of learning, you are just wasting time and space.
