The Sports Guy

The hottest thing on campus right now is the intramural basketball league. Every night this week until as late as 11 p.m. the Centennial Center has been packed with players and fans feverishly looking for a chance at glory.

Each team composed of approximately 10 players, is divided into three leagues: Men’s A, Men’s B, and the Women’s league. The Men’s A league is mainly comprised of the college fraternity teams and to many people is thought to be the more advanced league. The league contains the more legendary Fraternity wars that wagers yearly bragging rights.

Although the Men’s A league is labelled as the more talented league, the Men’s B and Women’s league are, in my opinion, the more exciting leagues.

Each game in these leagues contains a different ending every night. One bad call by the referee or one turnover by a player can ultimately lead to the dramatic defeat of one team and victory of another team.

Moreover, the fans of intramural basketball are crazy. As you enter the Centennial Center all you here is the fans chanting repetitively for their team.

The sidelines are crowded with colorful posters endorsing favorite players and teams. There were so many fans attending the games that the university had to move some games to the main basketball court to accommodate.

To some fans, these games mean life or death. Referees have had to warn several fans to watch their language for getting too involved in the game.

I personally ask these students to attend the GC&SU men’s and women’s NCAA home basketball games. If these fans came to the Bobcat games, then winning would be easy.

If you have not had the opportunity to go to an intramural game, I highly suggest venturing out to the Centennial Center this week to catch the playoffs of the intramural season.

You might be surprised to see the overwhelming amount of students that are there and maybe you’ll see your friends.
