Reader questions whether Shreve is a bigot

Dear Editor,

I wanted to comment on Brian Shreve’s article “A Bigot’s Guide to Life.” The assumption that Bible readers are bigots because we use it to express our views on issues such as the whole debate about gays is completely ignorant. The Bible is how I try to pattern my life.

There are many other ways to pattern a person’s life, and just because it is different from mine does not mean I feel that person is a bigot. A person has to have support for an opinion and just because a person does not agree with it doesn’t mean it is wrong. Is Mr. Shreve a bigot because he disagrees with me? According to his philosophy, he must be.

Sincerely,
Craig Petersheim
