Are you ready for some football ?

The up-and-coming Super Bowl is a way for GC&SU students to enjoy a night of friends, food, and most of all, football.

According to on-campus authorities, Super Bowl Sunday is not going to be a crazy night of kicking back one beer after another. Underage drinking is not tolerated in residence halls or Bobcat Village.

Residence hall students are still planning on hanging out with friends and eating plenty of food. Students are dividing up who brings the salsa, chips, cheese dip, coke, ice, cups, and other food items that could start a food fight, be thrown at the TV, or just eaten. Many students are treating the Super Bowl as just another excuse to hang out.

“I’m just looking forward to hanging out with my buds and watching the game,” said Guy Caldwell, senior management major.

Those not living in resident housing agree that a few beers while watching the game is enjoyable but they will not be drinking excessively because of classes the following Monday.

“(My friends) are all going to a friend’s apartment to watch the game,” said Megan Peterson, a sophomore mass communication major. “The girls are going to bring dinner and the guys are getting the drinks.”

Besides hanging out with friends, the night will also consist of some gambling on the big game, commencing at Super Bowl kick-off at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5. Betting is all about the student’s pride; there is no money involved.

Many students are betting on the Steelers for a win since the team has won numerous Super Bowls in the past. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-1 in the Super Bowl.

Sophomore Matt Hallas said he is hoping for another Steelers win.

“I would like the Steelers to win because they are a historically great team and it would be cool to see a traditional great win again,” he said.

Several GC&SU students chose to support the Steelers due to the dislike of players or coaches of the Seahawks.

“I want the Steelers to win, because I don’t like Mike Holmgren (Seahawks’ Head Coach) for leaving the Packers. So I’m going to cheer for the other team,” said Peterson.

On the other hand, some students sympathize with the Seahawks because people are not giving them enough credit. This is the first appearance of the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

“I want the Seahawks to win because all my friends are going for the Steelers,” said Blair Poland, a freshman nursing major. “But it would be awesome if (the Seahawks) did win, since it’s their first time being in the championship game.”

Ultimately, this Sunday night will serve as a way for students to escape the stress of school and relax.
