More to Wilson’s overseas experience
Dear Editor,
I enjoyed reading Adam Hammond’s article on Dr. Wilson’s experience teaching in the Czech Republic.
I think your readers would be interested to know that Dr. Wilson’s teaching was part of an on-going exchange relationship established two years ago between GC&SU and Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech. Dr. Jane Rose, Professor of English, has also taught courses at Palacky University, and Jakub Duerr from Palacky University has given a couple of lectures at GC&SU.
In addition, GC&SU and Valdosta State University collaborate on a Maymester study program at Palacky through which Dr. J.J. Arias, Associate Professor of Economics, taught and eight Georgia College students studied the “Heart of Central Europe” in Olomouc, Czech, this past summer. Dr. Doris Moody, Director of the Honors and Scholars Program, has also spent a Maymester in Olomouc.
In addition to Palacky University, Georgia College has a second on-going Czech exchange relationship with the University of Hradec Kralove, which was established five years ago. Since that time, the International Education Center has worked with Dr. Stanislav Bohadlo, Professor of Musicology at Hradec Kralove, to bring a group of Roma
(Gypsy) musicians on tour to Georgia in 2002 and to organize study tours for both the Jazz Band under Dr. Todd Shiver, Associate Professor of Music, and Theatre students under Ms. Marlene Johnson, Assistant Professor of Performance.
Students and faculty members interested in becoming involved as part of these study and exchange opportunities should inquire in the International Education Center.
