A Fan’s Note
After beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-7 on Nov. 28, the Indianapolis Colts improved to 11-0 on the season.
The Colts are only the 11th team in NFL history to accomplish this.
But the win against the Steelers did more than just keep alive the Colts unbeaten streak – it silenced some of their critics.
All season, the Colts have had to listen to people say two things – Peyton Manning and the Colts can’t beat Tom Brady and the Patriots in New England and the Colts are too soft of a team that can’t dominate the line of scrimmage.
The Colts addressed the first criticism on Nov. 7 by trouncing the Patriots 40-21 in New England.
And last Monday, the Colts proved that they are a physical team.
The Steelers are a team that is known for their tough, physical play. They are an old school grind-it-out between the tackles type of team.
But last Monday, the Colts’ offensive and defensive lines consistently beat the Steelers off the ball.
Now, the only question that remains is: Can the Colts finish the season undefeated?
The 1972 Miami Dolphins is the only team in NFL history to go undefeated. The ’72 Dolphins finished the season 17-0.
For the Colts to repeat this task, they will have to post two more wins than the Dolphins did.
The Dolphins only played 14 regular season games compared to the current 16 game regular season.
Although it is not clear who the Colts would face in the post-season, their five remaining games in the regular season are not going to be a cake walk.
Of the five remaining games, three of the games will be played in Indianapolis.
The Colts get the Tennessee Titans, the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Cardinals at home and travel to Jacksonville and Seattle.
The only guaranteed win, if there is such a thing in the NFL, is against the Cardinals.
The remaining teams, while not as good as the Colts, are good enough to beat them.
The odds of the Colts going undefeated aren’t as good as the odds of them winning the Super Bowl.
