Web site delayed again
The release of the brand new GC&SU Web site has been delayed until later this month, according to Mitch Clarke, director of University Communications.
The campus community was invited to a sneak preview of the new Web site on Nov. 3, in the Arts & Sciences auditorium. It was due to be ready for use in October, but has since been delayed until mid-November.
To clarify many of the students’ concerns, the new Web site will replace the older GC&SU site, not the GC&SU InfoPage. According to Clarke, it will mainly be aimed at new and prospective students, complete with a new layout which will make the site more user friendly and navigable, with topic-specific links that will help the user find the information they are searching for.
The site was created mostly by Clarke and the University Communications Department, with the aid of webmaster Barbara Monnett and University Communications Associate Director Zach Kincaid. Because the venture was generally done internally, the new site didn’t make much of a dent in the University’s budget.
“We are thinking it should be up for use on Nov. 14, but hey, technological problems can occur, so the week before it happens, the Web site will be announced in a press release on the InfoPage,” Clarke said.
According to the press release on the InfoPage, “the goal of the web redesign project was to create a user-friendly, easy-to-navigate site that focuses primarily on three main audiences: prospective students and their parents; prospective faculty and staff; and alumni and friends,” Clarke said. “The new site has a consistent design that blends well with the university’s overall marketing strategy. Pages on the site all use the same fonts, colors, etc.; URLs are shorter and easier to use. And we believe it is much easier to navigate than the current site.”
Junior Ana Col?n-Olivieri, an exercise science major, is happy about the new website.
“My younger sister is in her senior year of high school right now and is looking to come to GC&SU. I remember when I was interested in going to the university, and I found (the current Web site) a little confusing,” Col?n-Olivieri said. “I am happy that the new Web site will be a little more user friendly so she wont have such a hard time using it and getting the answers she needs.”
Sophomore Aaron Ferrell, a biology major, feels the same.
“The existing Web site just feels out of date. It should be kept current with everything happening on campus because new students should get a good look at what GC&SU has to offer,” Ferrell said. “The current site just doesn’t represent how great a place GC&SU really is.”
The new website will be up this month following a press release on the InfoPage and announcements through e-mail. For more information, contact University Communications at (478) 445-4477.
