Best Buddies donate to underprivileged children

The Best Buddies organization at GC&SU met on Nov. 9 to wrap shoeboxes filled with donated Christmas gifts for Operation Christmas Child.

At the meeting, held in the Kilpatrick atrium, the organization collected 25 shoeboxes. Donators were also asked to bring five dollars to handle shipping fees.

Marianne McAllister, host site coordinator, expresses how important this service project, Operation Christmas Child, is to the buddies.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for the buddies to get together with the college students and give to children in third-world countries who have less than us,” said McAllister. “It gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others,” she said.

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry program of Samaritan’s Purse, which was started by Franklin Graham. It is an opportunity to bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations that live in third-world countries.

Holli Griffin, college buddy director, said that this experience meant more to her than just simply coming to a meeting and decorating the shoeboxes with her buddy.

“My buddy, Torie Hawkins, and I actually went to the store together and had a chance to spend time with each other as well as helping children across the country by brightening their Christmas holidays,” said Griffin.
