Political conservatives have voice, too
Dear Editor,
In response to A.P. Holbrook: Yes, I am a political conservative, and as such my belief is ‘I should be able to do anything I want, as long as I hurt no one else,’ I am also a realist regarding people and their actions. I am a child of the depression, a student of the human condition, and of history. I am also a veteran of the USAF, having served in Europe during the Cold War. I am a staunch believer in the ideologies of Ayn Rand and Thomas Jefferson.
I believe Gen. Mc Arthur was correct when he set up the university system in Japan, following WWII, with socialist teachers; while at the same time, the Truman administration increased the might of the national industrial/banking system.
I know conservative members of academia of several collages and universities. They say they feel pressured to point to the left when presenting to their students. I believe this is true.
You say you are a liberal based on the facts. OK. Whose facts? Do you get your facts from your like-minded friends who agree with you and the leftist press? In the same manner as do the right wingers with their friends and talk radio? I overheard a lady at a party I was attending say that ‘this and so’ must be true as everyone she knew said so. I asked her if she had ever spoken to someone from a group other than her friends, she answered, ‘No, of course not.’ Hmmm!
I look forward to taking this conversation further.
