Fallfest welcomes prospective students
Georgia College & State University is preparing for Fallfest 2005, which serves as a preview day for high school seniors and juniors who are prospective students of the university.
Fallfest will be held on the GC&SU campus this Saturday, Oct. 15. It is an event at which the university will showcase academic and student life opportunities for incoming students and parents.
“The Office of New Student Programs has received close to 800 student and parent reservations, and the calls, faxes and emails are still coming in,” said Kathy Edmonson, coordinator of orientation and new student programs.
Fallfest is an event where prospective students can discover the benefits of attending Georgia’s public liberal arts university.
The event is not a usual visitation day that would occur at other colleges because of the academic and student support resources that GC&SU will make available to participants.
“It is not just a typical open house opportunity,” Edmonson said. “We know today that GC&SU enrolls some of the most promising students. Fallfest is designed to assist with the significant decisions high school seniors have with their college selection. Faculty and staff have planned a day that will ensure our prospective students have a chance to interact with current students, tour the vibrant community and meet with faculty and university administrators.”
The Fallfest welcome program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Russell Auditorium. The GC&SU Jazz Band will perform, and there will be comments from Vice President and Dean of Faculties Anne Gormly, Director of Admissions Mike Augustine and Director of Financial Aid Suzanne Pittman, along with messages from current students.
The Deans’ Panel, which is making its premiere at Fallfest, will help the students and parents learn about the various majors within their schools to prepare the families for their academic visits.
At 11 a.m., guests will have an opportunity to visit concurrent academic programs. Faculty from various academic departments in each school will present workshops and receptions for the guests. A tour of the new GC&SU Library will follow. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., representatives from registered student organizations will be at the Bobcat Marketplace on the front campus lawn to provide information about their organizations.
At 1 p.m., participants may attend the Prospective Freshman Forum in Russell Auditorium, where they will learn all about campus living, POUNCE and the Information Technology Center. A question-and-answer session with current students will be held. Guests are invited to participate in open houses at various locations on campus from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
