Disability aid knows No Boundaries
The No Boundaries Club at GC&SU is hosting No Boundaries Week Oct. 16 through Oct. 22 to educate and raise awareness about people with disabilities.
Throughout the Baldwin County community and across the GC&SU campus, events will take place to highlight improving interactions between individuals with disabilities and the rest of the community. The No Boundaries Club wants to create a better quality of life for people with disabilities.
Paul Sedor is the founder of No Boundaries Club and No Boundaries Week at GC&SU. He is also on the planning committee.
“No Boundaries Week is about showing people there are no boundaries to what they can do,” Sedor said.
On Oct. 21, the No Boundaries Club will host the No Boundaries Fall Festival. This event will start at 5:30 p.m. on the front campus of GC&SU with a concert produced by the Baldwin Service Center. The festival will also include the GC&SU
premiere of The Kids on the Block puppet show, followed by a free cookout and a carnival.
The second annual Empathy Dinner is also a highlight of the week. On Oct. 17, the Empathy Dinner will be held in the Magnolia Ballroom. This event is pursuing sponsors for each table of eight in order to cover the cost of the meal. The cost is $100 per table.
Barbara Coleman is the executive director at the Baldwin Service Center and helped coordinate these events.
“The Empathy Dinner helps by creating an awareness and it gives a minor glimpse of a person with a disability,” Coleman said.
Other events throughout the week include a “beep baseball” game that will be held at Walter B. Williams Park, a wheelchair basketball game in the Centennial Center and a three-part program consisting of a movie, speaker and service project that all pertain to the theme of “Mr. Holland’s Opus.”
Also, a Braille Uno tournament will be held at the Pine Lounge and an adaptive bowling tournament will be held at the Baldwin Service Center.
