Parking: Council should hear students
Dear Editor,
I was outraged to read a recent article published in Volume 82, No. 2 (of The Colonnade) regarding a new city ordinance that limits parking in Milledgeville.
Not only are the new regulations outrageous, but the penalties for violating the new ordinance are blatantly unnecessary. Fining the public up to $150 per violation is ridiculous and is a far worse crime than parking illegally.
It appears that Ken Vance has a hidden motive in regards to his Nazi-like patrolling of city parking spaces, perhaps an unjust attempt to raise funds for the city. Mr. Vance was also quoted as saying that it would have little effect on most students’ everyday lives and reminds us that there is plenty of space in an empty parking lot on Irwin Street. Perhaps if the gates to this parking lot closed and provided secure parking, more students would utilize it. The bottom line is that students and citizens of Milledgeville were never allowed to voice their opinion BEFORE the ordinance was passed; therefore, it should either be completely removed or amended by the voters.
Sincerely,
Jafer Beizer
